Trade Lunch — San Marzano

Our trade partners joined us at Garden Lounge, The Murray Hong Kong for a lunch hosted by Vera Malisani, Winery Ambassador, exploring the wines that have shaped San Marzano into one of Puglia’s most recognised producers.

Founded by 19 winegrowers in the heart of Primitivo di Manduria, San Marzano has spent decades redefining how the region is perceived internationally. From fresh, Mediterranean-inspired whites to the depth and generosity of old-vine Primitivo, the tasting reflected the diversity of southern Italy and the winery’s longstanding commitment to expressing its origins.

The menu offered a fitting backdrop for the wines. The bright citrus and herbal lift of Timo Vermentino Salento IGP 2025 paired naturally with the appetizer, while the layered texture of Edda Bianco Salento IGP 2024 beautifully complemented the depth of a double-boiled chicken soup with sea conch.

To follow, a red flight showcasing IL Pumo Primitivo Salento IGP 2025, Talò Negroamaro Salento IGP 2024, Collezione Cinquanta Vino Rosso d’Italia NV, and the flagship Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP 2020 was served alongside Iberico char siu, offering a striking demonstration of how Puglia's generous fruit and supple structures interact with the rich glaze and savory depth of Cantonese barbecue.

For our trade partners, the ultimate takeaway was a rediscovery of San Marzano's incredible culinary versatility—proving that Puglia’s sun-drenched fruit and supple structures are a natural, brilliant match for the delicate broth and rich glazes of Cantonese cuisine. Our sincere thanks to Vera Malisani and everyone who joined us for a memorable afternoon celebrating the warmth, character, and generous hospitality of Puglia. 🍷✨
