Vega Sicilia is a renowned Spanish wine estate located in the Ribera del Duero region. The winery has been in operation since 1864, predating the Ribera del Duero Denominación de Origen appellation.

The Vega Sicilia estate covers approximately 1,000 hectares, with around 210 hectares dedicated to vineyards. The vineyards are predominantly planted with the Tempranillo grape variety, along with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec.

Vega Sicilia produces three primary wines: Único, Reserva Especial, and Valbuena. Único and Reserva Especial are traditionally aged for a minimum of 10 years, while Valbuena is aged for 5 years, all in oak barrels.

The estate was acquired by the Álvarez family in 1982. In addition to Vega Sicilia, the Álvarez family owns several other prominent Spanish wine properties. These include Bodegas Alión, Bodegas Pintia in the Toro region, the Deiva winery in Rías Baixas, and the Oremus estate in the Tokaj region of Hungary.

The Álvarez family has also partnered with Compagnie Viticole Baron Edmond de Rothschild to create the Macán estate in the Rioja region. This collaboration demonstrates the family's continued commitment to expanding their portfolio of high-quality Spanish wine brands.

Vega Sicilia and the Álvarez family's other wine estates have firmly established the family's reputation as leading producers of world-class wines from various Spanish appellations. The longevity and consistent quality of Vega Sicilia's wines have cemented the estate's status as an iconic symbol of Spanish viticulture.
