Colgin Cellars was established in 1992 when Ann Colgin, an art history graduate and former Christie’s auctioneer, partnered with Helen Turley, a renowned winemaker, to secure grapes from the Herb Lamb vineyard on the lower slopes of Howell Mountain. Ann Colgin's passion for wine was ignited during a decorative arts course in London when she tasted a 1961 Château Latour, leading her to nurture this interest through her auctioneering career. By 1998, the winery had expanded to own 3 key vineyards: Tychson Hill, Cariad, and IX Estate, each contributing to its reputation for producing small yields of exquisite red wines.
The winery's vision, driven by a love for the land and reverence for the artistic beauty of fine wine, reflects Ann Colgin's background as a collector of fine art, aiming to create wines that are as much an artistic expression as they are a viticultural achievement. These wines consistently receive top scores from leading critics and are highly sought after by collectors worldwide. In 2005, Colgin was named “One of the 50 Greatest Wine Estates in the World” by Robert M. Parker, Jr.
In 2017, Colgin Cellars joined LVMH’s prestigious Vins d’Exception portfolio, aligning with iconic estates such as Château d’Yquem and Château Cheval Blanc. This partnership has further elevated Colgin’s global presence while preserving its artisanal winemaking ethos.
