The 2021 harvest at Patrice Rion commenced on September 18th and spanned a week, yielding approximately 18 to 20 hectoliters per hectare. The grapes achieved a promising sugar level of 12.5% to 13%, with only minimal chaptalization required. The vineyard team effectively managed the threats of oidium and mildew, ensuring the health of the grapes throughout the growing season.
Following a meticulous double sorting process—both before and after destemming—the grapes were processed with clean lees, allowing for a smooth fermentation without the addition of sulfur. This fermentation was notably rapid, and malolactic fermentation proceeded without complications during February and March.
In terms of aging, the Rions opted for minimal new wood, favoring the use of one-year-old barrels, which contributed to a refined profile for the wines. There is potential for a slightly shorter elevage period, reflecting the vintage's character.
