This isn't quite as deeply colored as the '95 Charmes (see herein) and the expressive nose is consistent with this as there is more evident maturity to the secondary fruit and earth aromas that display hints of sous-bois. There is both good energy and a bit more refinement to the lightly stony medium weight plus flavors that evidence just a touch of tannic edginess on the lingering finish. This is pretty and certainly attractive in its fashion but the balance isn't quite perfect.
