Over a quarter-century ago, the Gaja family expanded to Bolgheri, drawn by its dynamic attitude, climate, and soil. They planted Ca’ Marcanda’s first vineyards in 1996 and began cellar construction in 1998. Built underground to respect the landscape, the cellar is covered with rocks, soil, native vegetation, and 350 mature olive trees, rendering it almost invisible and seamlessly blended into the environment.

Ca’ Marcanda combines generations of historical craftsmanship with a focus on sustainability and land care. By experimenting with blends of international and Mediterranean varieties, the estate creates expressive wines while leveraging grape blending as a key practice to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The label design pays homage to Bolgheri’s iconic cypress-lined boulevard. For the Gaja family, this landmark symbolizes how intelligent land management enriches and protects the region for future generations.
