Domaine de Montille’s 2022 vintage looks highly successful, with a much steadier and more forgiving season than 2021, when mechanical, human, and frost issues made life especially difficult. In 2022, the team benefited from a strong set-up all round, reliable vineyard work, and well-timed treatment cycles, allowing the fruit to be managed cleanly through to harvest. The resulting wines show the domaine’s familiar precision and mineral drive, but with more ease, balance, and natural confidence.

Harvest began with the kosher wines on 25 and 26 August, before the rest of the domaine followed from 28 August onward, with picking decisions guided by acid profile. Yields were healthy, at around 40–45 hl/ha for reds and 45–60 hl/ha for whites, while alcohol levels ranged from 12.6% to 13.3% in both colours. There were no fermentation problems to report, and the reds in particular stand out as finely judged, using a good proportion of whole bunches without allowing the stems to dominate.

The whites, especially at the top end, were sometimes a little reticent at the tasting stage, suggesting they may ultimately prove better than they initially appeared. That is in keeping with Domaine de Montille’s style, which often combines chiselled minerality with real intensity and structure.

The 2022 reds are where Domaine de Montille’s style comes most vividly into focus, combining fine structure, generous fruit, and the domaine’s hallmark mineral precision. They show real poise and definition, with the whole-bunch influence adding aromatic lift and tension without obscuring the purity of the fruit.
