Located in the southwest subzone of Brunello di Montalcino at an altitude of 350 m (1,148 ft), the Pieve Santa Restituta estate has a winemaking history dating back to the 12th century, with historical mentions of its famous Sugarille vineyard extending to 1547.

In 1975, after over 1,300 years of church ownership, the curia sold the parish church and surrounding land. The buyer restored the property and named the winery Pieve Santa Restituta. Upon the owner's retirement, Angelo Gaja acquired the estate in 1994 to expand his winemaking footprint.

The estate's varied subsoils—composed of limestone, galestro, clay, and sand—help define its Sangiovese, producing structured yet balanced and fine wines. Most vineyards feature a southwest exposure, benefiting from warm, dry sea breezes that control humidity and mitigate diseases like oidium and downy mildew.

In honor of its heritage, the wine labels feature a central cross to commemorate the historic tie between the church and the estate, while the gold on the Brunello label reflects traditional religious artwork.
