Established in 1810, Schlumberger is one of the most reliable and respected names from Alsace. The family is also the largest holders of Grand Cru vineyards in the area, including 4 Grands Crus, Kitterlé, Kessler, Saering and Spiegel . They are estate winegrowers who exclusively harvest and produce their own wines. They do not buy any grapes nor juice or wine (Alsatians winegrowers represents only 22% of the regional production). Nowadays, Thomas and Severine Schlumberger represent the 7th Generation in charge of the family estate. An exeptional location. Situated on the steep hillsides of the Vosges, the vineyard benefits from the best exposures (southwest, south, southeast); its slopes can reach 50°.
Lying on Guebwiller’s splendid slopes, this 140 hectare domaine stretches over more than 5 kilometres on the southern side of the Vosges. At an altitude of 250 to 380 metres it benefits from a splendid climate which has led this valley to be called the "Valley of Flowers". The slopes have light sandy soil due to the slow erosion of the underlying pink sandstone. This vineyard faces south-east, south and south-west meaning that it is ideally exposed to the sun. The vines themselves stretch for 850 kilometres (570 miles) in horizontally planted rows along 5 terraces which are protected by dry-stone walls.
At Domaines Schlumberger, respect for the vineyard and passing it on to future generations in the best possible condition are fundamental issues that guide every one of their actions. Since April 2023, the estate has held the Vignerons Engagés label, the first CSR label awarded in Alsace by AFNOR. This certification underlines our desire to place respect for and protection of the environment at the heart of our projects.
