Established in 1810, Domaines Schlumberger is a highly regarded name in Alsace, known for its reliability and commitment to producing exceptional wines. As the largest holders of Grand Cru vineyards in the region, the Schlumberger family is proud to own prestigious sites such as Kessler, Kitterle, Saering, and Spiegel. Nestled on the splendid slopes of Guebwiller, this 140-hectare domaine extends over more than 5 kilometers on the southern side of the Vosges Mountains.
Positioned at an altitude of 250 to 380 meters, the vineyards benefit from a favorable climate, earning the region the nickname "Valley of Flowers." The soils are primarily light and sandy, resulting from the slow erosion of the underlying pink sandstone. The vineyard's strategic orientation—facing southeast, south, and southwest—ensures optimal sun exposure for the vines. The vineyard layout features 850 kilometers (570 miles) of rows planted horizontally along five terraces, all ingeniously protected by dry-stone walls that enhance the growing conditions.
Domaines Schlumberger's winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the unique terroir to shine through. Hand-harvesting ensures that only the highest quality grapes are selected. After careful pressing, fermentation utilizes indigenous yeasts, with aging taking place in a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels. This method enhances the wine’s balance while preserving freshness and aromatic character.
Domaines Schlumberger's wines are celebrated for their elegance, complexity, and remarkable aging potential. With an unwavering commitment to quality and a respect for tradition, the estate continues to captivate wine lovers and collectors alike, solidifying its status as a premier producer in the vibrant Alsace wine landscape.
