Triennes is a celebrated wine estate nestled in the picturesque region of Provence, France, known for its commitment to producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the area. Established in 1989, Triennes was the dream of two Burgundian winemakers, Jacques Seysses, founder of Domaine Dujac, and Aubert de Villaine, along with their Parisian friend, Michel Macaux. The trio sought new vineyards that held the potential for exceptional wines and were drawn to Provence after an extensive search.
Their search led them to Domaine du Logis de Nans in the Var region, situated east of Aix-en-Provence. The estate's gently sloping hillside, abundant southern exposure, and the cool microclimate created by the surrounding landscape presented an ideal setting for viticulture. The terroir, characterized by a blend of clay and limestone soils, was perfect for cultivating a range of grape varieties.
Renaming the estate Triennes, a homage to "Triennia," the ancient Roman festival dedicated to Bacchus, the god of wine, reflects the founders' appreciation for tradition while embracing modern winemaking techniques. The prefix “Tri” serves as a tribute to the three original partners, signifying their collaborative spirit.
At Triennes, winemaking combines respect for the environment with expert viticultural practices. The estate cultivates various grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and the indigenous Grenache, to produce a balanced array of wines. Emphasizing minimal intervention, the team allows the natural characteristics of the grapes and terroir to shine, resulting in expressive wines that capture the essence of Provence.
The dedication to quality and the exploration of Provence’s vinous potential have made Triennes a notable producer, respected by both locals and international wine enthusiasts.
