In the heart of Italy's Barolo region, the esteemed estate of Domenico Clerico in Monforte d'Alba is renowned for its exceptional wines. A leading winemaker, Domenico dedicated over 40 years to crafting wines that embodied this celebrated terroir.
His journey began in 1979 after a brief stint in olive oil, as he aimed to redefine Barolo winemaking. Initially using traditional Slavonian oak casks for Nebbiolo, he later embraced modern techniques with French barriques for added richness and complexity. Domenico once stated, "My only goal as a winemaker must be to highlight the potential of our land. Here, each vineyard has its own particular characteristic. I want to express this as best as I can in my wines." His creations were celebrated for their quality, beautifully marrying tradition with innovation. Inspired by renowned vineyards like Ginestra and Bussia, he crafted single-vineyard wines that showcased the region's diversity. His wines, described as having "sensual personalities," appealed to both connoisseurs and casual enthusiasts alike, reflecting his commitment to excellence and deep respect for the Barolo landscape. Today, the estate is led by Giuliana Clerico, his wife, alongside talented winemaker Oscar Arrivabene, who continue to honor Domenico's legacy while bringing a fresh perspective to the family tradition.
At Altaya Wines, we proudly source directly from the winery and are exclusive importer in Hong Kong, celebrating the heritage and future of Domenico Clerico.
