Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is a historical and benchmark estate located in the heart of Volnay, in the Côte de Beaune. Its lineage in viticulture dates back over 5 centuries, with continuous development since the early 19th century when Baron du Mesnil acquired key parcels, including the monopole Clos des Ducs. The domaine passed into the hands of Sem d’Angerville in 1888, who formally took over in 1906. A forward-thinking vigneron, Sem restructured the vineyard holdings following the phylloxera crisis, prioritized domaine bottling at a time when most wines were sold in bulk, and played an instrumental role in the creation of the INAO, helping shape France’s appellation system.

From 1952 onward, the estate was led by Jacques d’Angerville, who upheld strict viticultural standards and championed Volnay’s reputation for precision and finesse. After Jacques' passing in 2003, his son Guillaume d'Angerville took the helm, continuing the family's dedication to excellence and innovation.

Under Guillaume’s direction, the entire estate underwent conversion to biodynamic viticulture in 2006. Vineyard practices are centered on minimal intervention: no synthetic chemicals, manual soil cultivation, and treatments based on plant and mineral preparations. The domaine manages approximately 16.5 hectares of vines, primarily in Volnay, with a high proportion of Premier Cru parcels.

Yields are tightly controlled to achieve optimal phenolic maturity. Harvesting is done entirely by hand. In vinification, grapes are all destemmed; red wines undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. Extraction is carefully calibrated using remontage and gentle pigeage. The wines are aged for 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with minimal racking and no filtration at bottling.

Domaine Marquis d’Angerville today represents a synthesis of tradition, scientific viticulture, and meticulous cellar work. The wines are known for their purity, structural precision, and transparent expression of site—a direct result of the domaine’s relentless pursuit of quality at every stage, from soil to bottle.
