The Moreau family is not a newcomer in Chablis, having started a wine business in 1814 and sold their operation to a Canadian firm in 1980s that ultimately went into another big negociant’s hand. In 2002, with the remaining 12.5ha of prime vineyards, Christian and his son Fabien established a new domaine with modern facility. The majority of the land is of Grand Cru status and the average age of the vines are above 40 years old. The Domaine’s modern and functional building is set up in the very heart of the Chablis country, at the foot of its famous Grands Crus vineyards. The estate own 12 hectares of Chablis Grand Cru (Les Clos, Clos des Hospices which is a Moreau family exclusivity, Valmur, Vaudésir, Blanchot), Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon, Chablis and Petit Chablis. The result is naturally superb and a must for serious Chablis lovers.
Respecting Chablis’ vineyard terroir, the only one of its kind in the world and work in a rational way to maintain their grapevines and soil, applying a comprehensive strategy for effective yield management.
The winemaking techniques aim to honor the high quality of our terroir, vines and grapes, bringing out the very best in every harvest. All the grapes are hand-picked, from our Petit Chablis up to our Grands Crus.
At each step of the all wine making process, the estate works as to respect the terroir, the vines and the grapes in order to produce wines of great purity, characteristic of Chablis wines. Starting from 2004, progressively Fabien stopped using weed killers and pesticides and step by step started the conversion of the estate into Organic Agriculture. The estate eventually obtained their first official vintage with Organic Agriculture label in 2013.
