(Vintage 2022)
The 2022 vintage at Comtes Lafon is notable for its transitional phase, marked by the arrival of Elsie Moore on July 1st and the departure of Caroline Gon, who is shifting focus to her own domaine with Frantz Chagnoleau. This year presented weather patterns similar to the rest of Burgundy, including a hailstorm on June 21st in Vergisson. While June saw significant rainfall, the summer in Saône et Loire was relatively dry, resulting in lower yields.
Ripening was slower, likely due to drought conditions affecting the vine’s cycle. Despite these challenges, the white wines of 2022 have emerged with remarkably clean fruit profiles, exhibiting a freshness that exceeded expectations given the long, hot summer.
Most cuvées are crafted using a combination of foudres and demi-muids, alongside some standard barrels for the Pouilly Fuissé. This blend of techniques underscores Comtes Lafon's commitment to quality during this period of change and uncertainty. Overall, the 2022 vintage holds great promise as the estate navigates its evolving landscape.
