A delightful catch-up with Mr. Armand de Maigret, the steward of both Bonneau du Martray and Screaming Eagle vineyards, paired with a tasting of two stunning 2016 vintages! Armand shared the story behind Corton and Charlemagne, highlighting the diverse terroirs surrounding the domaine.
How about the wines? 2016 was no easy year — black frost swept through the vineyards, resulting in around 40% loss in white grapes and 50% in red. Yet, the wines are nothing short of remarkable. The white, Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, is pure, vibrant and full of good energy. The red, Corton Grand Cru? As our team said, it “tastes like luxury”, elegant, intense, complex, and fine-bone.
