Led by Thibault Jacquet, Estate Manager of Domaine Bonneau du Martray, the staff training and trade masterclass explored the philosophy behind Bonneau du Martray’s Grand Cru wines alongside the precision-driven approach of Screaming Eagle in Napa Valley.
At Bonneau du Martray, the focus remains firmly on Corton-Charlemagne — one of Burgundy’s most revered Grand Cru terroirs for Chardonnay. Farmed organically and biodynamically, the wines are shaped through careful élevage and restrained winemaking, allowing the depth, salinity, and mineral character of the site to emerge with clarity. Thibault shared the thinking behind the domaine’s transition from Corton-Charlemagne to Charlemagne — a return to the historic origins of the appellation and the distinctive identity of its west- and south-west-facing parcels on the Hill of Corton. Combined with the cooler microclimate of Pernand-Vergelesses, the terroir gives rise to wines defined by both depth and striking mineral tension.
The tasting then moved to Screaming Eagle The Flight 2016, offering a contrasting expression from Oakville. Produced in extremely limited quantities, the wine reflects the estate’s meticulous vineyard practices and polished yet remarkably composed style.
