Il Molino di Grace, or the "windmill of grace," is a distinguished winery located just south of Panzano in Tuscany's celebrated Chianti Classico region. Known for producing critically acclaimed Tuscan wines, the estate balances traditional winemaking techniques with a deep respect for its terroir.
The winery takes its name from a historic 19th-century windmill on the property, yet its viticultural roots extend over 350 years. Frank Grace acquired the estate in 1995 when it lacked a winery and sold grapes to local producers. Recognizing its potential, Frank, alongside winery manager Gerhard Hirmer, transformed a ruined barn into a modern winery, which opened in 1999.
Sustainability is at the heart of Il Molino di Grace's operations. The winery has pursued bio-dynamic practices since its inception, plowing each vineyard only once every three years to a shallow depth of 45 cm or less. Cuttings from the vines are repurposed to fuel the winery’s heating and air conditioning, eliminating gas use. Organic fertilizers are employed, along with indigenous yeast for fermentation, and grapes are meticulously harvested by hand. The estate has proudly held the designation of Organic ('Biologico') since 2010.
In winemaking, Il Molino di Grace emphasizes authenticity and meticulous care, producing and bottling all wines on-site. This commitment results in wines celebrated for their integrity, depth, and true reflection of the terroir.
With a focus on sustainability and quality, Il Molino di Grace continues to create wines that resonate with both critics and enthusiasts, fully embodying the essence of Tuscany and the rich legacy of its land.
