The 2022 growing season brought both challenges and advantages for vineyards. Although winter rainfall was below average, mild early spring temperatures helped reduce frost damage. The summer was notably hot and dry, making it one of the driest years on record. June storms caused flooding and hail damage in areas like Gevrey-Chambertin, but overall, the vines managed well, experiencing little hydric stress, though some producers reported thermic stress that delayed ripening.
Harvest dates varied, beginning around August 20th, with many Côte de Beaune producers starting in late August to early September. The resulting wines showcased balanced sugar levels and acidity, leading to a positive vintage, especially in the Côte de Nuits.
Jean-Marc Millot’s 2022 vintage highlights his skill in crafting red wines that balance intensity and finesse. His careful vineyard management and winemaking techniques allow the unique character of the terroir to shine through. The wines feature vibrant fruit flavors and smooth tannins, promising complexity as they age. This vintage reinforces Millot’s reputation and makes his wines highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
