The 2022 vintage for Jean-Jacques Confuron in Burgundy is noted for its remarkable consistency and quality, following the challenges of 2021. Despite below-average winter rainfall, the season progressed positively with mild spring conditions that led to an early flowering. Although some frost damage occurred in early April, it was limited, allowing the vines to thrive.
The summer of 2022 was one of the hottest and driest on record, with exceptional heat and minimal rainfall, particularly in May and July. A significant rainfall event in late June helped replenish water supplies, benefitting vine health. Harvest began in late August, with producers reporting well-balanced grapes despite some concerns over thermic stress affecting ripening.
Vinification was largely smooth, with few instances of stuck fermentations. Many producers opted for larger barrels due to a shortage of one-year-old barrels from the previous year’s low yield. The wines exhibit classic Pinot Noir characteristics, with fine tannins.
