Domaine Taupenot-Merme is a distinguished winery located in Morey-Saint-Denis, Burgundy, and represents the rich heritage of a family deeply rooted in viticulture. Romain Taupenot is the ninth generation to manage this esteemed domaine, which has been crafting exceptional wines for centuries. Although records indicate that his ancestors practiced viticulture as far back as the 17th century, the modern incarnation of the domaine emerged after the marriage of Romain’s parents, Denise Merme and Jean Taupenot, in 1963. This union combined vineyard holdings from both the Taupenot family in Saint-Romain and the Mermes in Morey-Saint-Denis, establishing a diverse array of vineyard sites across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune.

The estate spans approximately 13.5 hectares, with 9 hectares in the Côte de Nuits and 4.5 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, producing an impressive 19 different wines across seventeen appellations. Farming organically since 2001, the Taupenots are dedicated to respecting the character of each climat, aiming to yield wines of purity and grace that reflect their origins.

The winemaking philosophy at Taupenot-Merme emphasizes minimal intervention with a focus on authenticity. Grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted, with fermentation using indigenous yeasts to preserve the unique qualities of each vineyard. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, contributing depth and complexity while ensuring the wines remain true to their terroir.

Through their commitment to quality and sustainability, Romain and his partner Virginie continue to produce wines that captivate collectors and enthusiasts, honoring the rich legacy of the Taupenot-Merme family while looking toward an innovative future in Burgundy's winemaking landscape.
